Following the release of the Reply to Ruling Request No. 463 dated 21 September 2022, the Italian tax authorities commenced several auditing activities towards EU based insurance companies operating in Italy according to the “freedom to provide service” principle. The auditing activities are aimed at ascertaining if EU based insurance companies complied, starting from fiscal year 2017, with the Italian tax monitoring obligations set forth by Article 1 of Decree No. 167/1990.
