Chiomenti strengthens and consolidates its leadership in finance and financial institutions advisory

Over 2020 and 2021, Chiomenti expects a significant expansion of the Finance and Regulated Entities Department further consolidating its leadership in finance and in financial institutions advisory work.

Gianrico Giannesi and his team of seven professionals will join Chiomenti’s Rome office on 27 January 2020, increasing the headcount of the Finance and Regulated Entities Department, led by Gregorio Consoli, to 70 professionals. This is an important step towards achieving the Firm’s strategy in the sector.

From its establishment, Chiomenti has been a market leader in high profile transactions involving Italian financial institutions. The Firm’s strategy consists in the creation of a market leading finance department in Italy focussed on financial institutions as part of a full-service Firm. Over the past few years, the department has expanded, becoming a leader in many areas of finance (structured finance, NPLs, restructuring).

The entry of Gianrico Giannesi, formerly the head of the Banking and Finance department of an established international law firm, and his team, who will join Chiomenti’s Rome office, will further enhance the Firm’s expertise in structured finance and NPE and make the Firm a “powerhouse” in Italy in this sector.

The entry of Gianrico Giannesi and his team is part of a broad strategy of expansion of the department which had already started in 2019 with the entry of Riccardo Rossi as Counsel, working in the lending sector.

"The entry of Gianrico Giannesi demonstrates the appeal that the Firm has for well established professionals in other firms. We continue to prioritise the career progression of our own professionals, but also aim to attract lateral hires with market leading skills and reputation able to strengthen the Firm's position in specific sectors where we have identified room for significant growth, including in those sectors where we are already in a market leading position. Gianrico's case is emblematic. A department that today we can safely describe as market leader with high profile professionals further strengthens its position through the entry of a top-level professional and team" states Filippo Modulo, Managing Partner of the Firm.

"The entry of Gianrico Giannesi represents a decisive step towards the achievement of our Department's strategy. It enables us to further strengthen our leadership in structured finance, which is an increasingly relevant market and an expertise sought after by our clients. Structured finance has been employed in the most significant transactions in the NPLs sector, bank de-risking, as well as several transactions in the funding sector and, recently, structured lending. These are all long-term trends and will, in some cases, become even more significant. Our aim is to consolidate the Firm's leadership in the finance sector - DCM, restructuring and structured lending, and more generally in advising financial institutions - by integrating new skills and excellent professionals," said Gregorio Consoli, Head of the Finance and Regulated Entities Department.
