Stefano is a lawyer with long-standing and well-established experience across all areas of white-collar crime and criminal compliance. He is recognised as one of the leading experts in international matters, with a strong focus on strategic and multipractice approaches.
He advises and represents Italian and international corporations and top managers both at the pre-litigation stage, in connection with risk assessment and management, and in judicial proceedings, acting as defence counsel for suspects and defendants as well as counsel for injured parties.
Stefano’s main assistances include multi-jurisdictional cases involving economic crimes, internal investigations and judicial cooperation, including in matters involving the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, all areas in which he has acquired decades of professional expertise.
His key areas of specialisation include corporate criminal liability under Legislative Decree No. 231/2001 and criminal compliance. In these fields, he assists clients in resolving complex issues, particularly in relation to anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and international sanctions.

Stefano joined the Firm as an “Of Counsel” in 2017. Previously, he was a consultant on European and international corporate criminal law at Italian and foreign leading law firms.ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
Alongside his professional practice, Stefano pursues an academic career as Full Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Naples Federico II and UNESCO Chair Holder.
Over the years, he has also held institutional appointments and has served, among other roles, as a member of the reform commissions on corporate criminal liability established by the Italian Government — the Garofoli/Melillo Commission in 2016 and the Fidelbo Commission in 2025 — as well as a United Nations consultant on anti-corruption and on integrity issues in the art market.
He regularly publishes books and scholarly contributions. To date, he has authored or edited over thirty volumes in Italian, English and French, covering a wide range of topics in domestic, European and international criminal law, with particular focus on corporate criminal liability and white-collar crime.
He has been a Visiting Professor at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne; Université de Genève; Queen Mary University of London.
