Newsalert - Common minimum coverage levels for NPEs: the EU proposal for a Regulation

On 3 January 2019, the European Council published the final compromise text on the proposal for a regulation amending Regulation (EU) no. 575/2013 (the “CRR”) regarding the minimum loss coverage for non-performing exposures (NPEs), on which the European Council reached a provisional agreement with the European Parliament on 18 December 2018.

The proposal, initially included in the comprehensive reform package aimed at tackling NPEs in the European banking sector presented by the European Commission in March 2018, lay down provisions requiring a deduction from own funds where NPEs are not sufficiently covered by provisions or other adjustments.
